Set up in 2001, the Dot NAME generic Top-Level Domain is the single TLD supposed to be for personal websites only. These domains can consist of personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other titles people are known by. At first, solely third-level registrations were allowed, so if you desired to purchase john.doe.name, you were supposed to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already grabbed 3rd-level names remained functional.
